Reason detected of east PetroChina Rudong LNG construction site accident

BEIJING, June 19 – The accident in LNG storage tank construction site in east China’s Jiangsu Province on Tuesday are caused by a construction platform collapse, said the investigation team to the incident Wednesday.

The tank was under construction with several platforms settled outside of it, when the reinforcing steel bar on the 9th tier of the tank keeled over and led a collapse of the construction platform.

Xinhua reporter eyed there was still some steel bar net over the 83-meter diametrical tank. The collapsed steel bar net fell off inwards from a 30-meter height, charged several deaths and injured on the platform and the bottom.

The investigation team is analyzing from the designing, construction, management and physical factor of the tank to further detect the possible reason of the incident. The incident caused no damage to the cement injection part of the tank. The department in charge of the construction is clearing the site and evaluate the damage, aimed to resume construction earlier.

Among the 8 dead, 5 were villagers in Rudong County where the incident took place, and three others are from Jiangsu and Anhui province.
